Skype - Illinois Pen Pals

On our last day of school we got to Skype with our Illinois pen pals. They presented what they had learned about astronauts and space to us as a local tv newscast. We really enjoyed watching them. The students were also pretty excited to get to talk to the pen pal they have been corresponding with all year.

Pakistan Partnership

Here is our pen pal partnership with Pakistan. We had a wonderful time exchanging diaries and learning about each other's culture!

Kansas Commissioner Dr. Diane DeBacker Farewell Lunch

Recently, the Kansas Commissioner of Education, Dr. Diane DeBacker came to eat with the class. This was her last official visit before her final day on May 14th. She is leaving to take a position in Abu Dhabi at the end of May.

Life Cycles!

We were very successful with each stage of the life cycle. Our preying mantas hatched, we had some mealworms turn to beetles, and we had some lady bugs. We enjoyed studying each stage of the life cycle and getting to see everything in its adult stage.

Poetry Published Books Military Tribute Presentation

We culminated our published book unit by presenting them to soldiers. It was a wonderful experience for the students. They read their favorite poems, created a video for the soldiers and presented them with goodie bags. It was so authentic to have actual soldiers come out for the students. It was a very touching day for everyone.
Here is a short video recap of the day:

Here is the video the students created for the soldiers:

Grams vs. Kilograms

The students were working on grams and kilograms. They were using the weight scales to find things that could weigh a total of 1-gram up to 1 kilogram. The students were very creative in making their discoveries.
