Curriculum Update January 27-31

Hi Families! I hope everyone is having a good week so far. If you haven't had a chance, please click on this link to sign-up for the item your child is bringing in for our third grade international festival. The committee needs all of the information by Friday. Thanks!
International Festival Sign-Up
Our taste-fest will be at 1:30, school performance at 3:00 and evening performance at 7:00.

ELA/SS
The students will continue their international festival research. They have written questions that will help guide them in answering the driving question, "How does your heritage impact who you are today?"
The students will also read more about different geographical locations and create their own questions for discussion. Students will celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Math
We will continue learning about fractions this week. Students will find equivalent fractions, equivalent fractions on a number line, whole numbers and fractions, how to use fractions and how to compare fractions on a number line. Students will also generate their own questions to have a group discussions on fractions.

Spelling/Vocabulary
Both tests are on February 7. The words are:
country: the territory of a nation
history: the record of past events and times
geography: the physical characteristics, especially the surface features, or an area
population: the total number of person living in a country, city, or any district or area
currency: something that is used as a medium of exchange; money
education: a degree, level, or kind of schooling
holiday: a day fixed by law or custom on which ordinary business is suspended in commemoration of some event or in honor of some person
culture: the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group
heritage: something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth
sports: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature
language: the method of human communication, either written or spoken
stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing
perspective: a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view
export: send (good or services) to another country for sale
import: bring (goods or services) into a country from abroad for sale
