Celebrating Dental Health Month Video

We celebrated dental health month by making a video to remind people to keep their teeth clean.

Curriculum Update March 24-28

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break. I can't believe it is 4th quarter already.

Assessments are right around the corner. The dates are:
Reading Assessment April 7th & 8th 9:00-11:00
Math Assessment April 16th & 17th 9:00-11:00
MAP Assessment April 28-30 9:00-10:30

Please try not to schedule any appointments during this time.

ELA/Science We are beginning our life cycles unit. This will be interactive where the students will learn about how traits, characteristics and the environment play a role on the life cycle of a species. The students will make movies, complete Webquests, observe the life cycle of beetles, lady bugs, butterflies and a praying mantis. Hopefully they willl turn out!

The students will conduct and answer questions as they read about life cycles and gather their research on their webquest.

The students will be writing an informative paper about the life cycle of a species they create and will also be writing from the perspective of a species in different traits.

Students will learn about perimeter this week. We will be breaking up into math groups as the students work together to answer perimeter word problems and learn about perimeter through interactive activities. The students will understand perimeter, tools and units for perimeter, perimeter of common shapes, learn about different shapes with the same perimeter and use problem-solving to try, check and revise.

chrysalis: the inactive stage in the development of a butterfly or moth during which the larva is enclosed in a tough case from which a fully developed adult eventually emerges
adult: a fully grown person, animal or plant
compare: to examine how two or more people or things are alike and different
constrast: a difference; unlikeness
characteristic: a special feature or quality
adaptation: a trait that helps an animal or plant meet  its needs in the place where it lives
inherited: passed on from parents to their young

Curriculum Update March 4-7

Wow! Another short week due to weather. Hopefully, that will be the end of it and we can enjoy some warm weather.

No school, Friday, March 14th.
Spring Break March 15-23

We are celebrating Dr. Seuss this week. Here are the remaining days of the schedule:

 Tuesday, March 4th: The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins Day- Wear your favorite hat, but only wear one; it will be a whole lot of fun!

Wednesday, March 5th: Fox in Socks Day - Wacky Wednesday in silly socks; the sillier the better, but No Fox!

Thursday, March 6th: Red Fish Blue Fish Day - Wear red or blue. Red or blue is the name of the game and then we'll all look the same!

Friday, March 7th: The Cat in the Hat Day - The Cat and the Hat will be here to play so Cougars wear your red and white on Friday.

We are continuing to focus on what makes a good citizen this week. The students will answer the following questions:
What are the consequences of choosing to be an active member of your community?
Why do communities need laws/rules?
Who in your community decides what rules/laws are made and followed?
Can laws in your community be changed?
What makes someone a good citizen in your community?

We will reading, discussing and answering questions about the variety of aspects of citizenship.

We will also continue our Pay it Forward project where we work on displaying random kindness without receiving anything in return. The students are working on their published books for the military and will be writing postcards and decorating pillowcases for Operation Postcard and Operation Pillowcase this week.

We have completed our geometric shape unit and are moving on to time. We are working on time to the quarter and half hour, elapsed time and time to the minute.
