DuPont Challenge 3rd Grade Grand Prize Winners

The class received a surprise phone call they are the grand prize winners of the national DuPont Challenge Science Competition. They were shocked to say the least. It was quite a honor for them. I am very proud of their efforts and hard work. They can't wait for everyone to fly to Kansas for their science day.

Third Grade Science Week

We are having a great time during third grade science week. In this experiment, the kids are busy testing hoop gliders they created.

Published Book Presentation to the Military

The students were thrilled to present their published books to a troop from Ft. Leavenworth in person on Tuesday. They read their letters and poems, created a video, posters and made care packages. The troop really appreciated the kindness. We all learned a lot about the army from the troops.

Promoting Kindness through Infographics

As part of our civics unit, the students wanted to create signs they could hang around the school to promote kindness and make others happy. They worked in pairs to create infographics. Here are links to some of them.

Perimeter/Area Pal Stories

We have been working on perimeter and area. Students integrated art by creating their own perimeter/area pal, finding both the perimeter and area of their pal. Then, they got with a partner and wrote a story. Students used iPods to take photos for their story, then used Animoto to present. Here are a few of them.

Surprising all the Adults at the School - Pay it Forward

In class, we are learning about ways to be a responsible citizen and how one can fulfill their civic duty. Students worked together to brainstorm ways they could Pay it Forward. One of the ways was to surprise all the adults in our school with one of their favorite treats they had listed at the beginning of the school year for the office. Students had a blast delivering all the different treats, while bringing a smile to everyone's faces. All the students asked in return was for each adult to pay the kindness forward to someone else.

Students are helping to sort all the snack for each teacher.

Tone/Mood Skype

To work on tone and mood, we created songs, stories and photos for our pen pals in Mrs. Reinert's class in Illinois. They did the same. Then, students read their stories, performed their songs and showed their photos. Each class then tried to guess the tone and mood. The students were very engaged doing this.

Animal Adaptation Presentations

Emma and Lincoln's project on cheetahs
Students have been studying about animal adaptations and analyzing fossils to figure out what the environment was like in the past. For the students' project, they transformed into zookeepers, where they created research questions about their animal and formed some type of presentation. Students then presented their projects to the class as if they were on a field trip.

Here is a link to the website they created. http://cheetahsbylincolnandemma.weebly.com/
