Mystery Skype with Mr. Osborn's class in Mattawan, Michigan

We had a great Mystery Skype with Mr. Osborn's class in Mattawan, Michigan today.

Foil Economics

We are currently studying economics. Students created two items out of foil to understand being a producer. Then, each student created an advertisement for their items. They wrote down the top three goods they wanted. Students then learned about bartering where they traded for items they really wanted. This helped them apply opportunity cost. Finally, we had an in/out circle, where students answered reflection questions about getting what they wanted, bartering and making decisions.

Valentine's Day Cards for Nursing Home Residents

As part of our Pay it Forward, students made Valentine's Day crafts with a nice message on the back for nursing home residents. These were a big hit at Medicalodge in Gardner, Kansas.

Grab the Candy - Working on Coordinate Graphing

Students played Grab the Candy to work on coordinate graphing. Students each had Valentine's Day hearts. They put them in five different places on their card, then tried to guess where their partner's candy was located. It is a candy version of battleship. Students were very strategic in where they placed their candy. They played four games, then received their own box of candy hearts at the end of the battle.

Genius Hour - Interviewing Professional Cheerleader

Reagan and Sydney have a passion for cheerleading. They have been studying cheerleading, after creating their driving question for their second genius hour project. They were able to do a phone interview with KC Chiefs Cheerleader, Jillian Carroll. They were VERY excited to have the opportunity to learn more about the sport and what it takes to cheer for a professional team from an expert cheerleader.

City of Shawnee Time Capsule Ceremony

On January 17, students were able to attend a time capsule ceremony at the City of Shawnee City Hall. Our class felt honored to be one of four classes selected in Shawnee/Shawnee Mission to predict what life would be like in 2065. Students created a class list with their photos and signatures attached. They were recognized at the ceremony and had a chance to help dig where the time capsule will stay for the next 50 years.
